Children's Outreach
Good News Club
The Good News Club through Child Evangelism Fellowship is an after-school program to teach and disciple children in the knowledge of the Judeo-Christian Holy Bible. The children love to dance and sing (loudly) praises exuberantly to Jesus Christ. I am amazed at how astute they are when we play "What Do You Know?" where the children are questioned about the Bible story that we studied that day. One year as the new school year began we saw our Good News Club (GNC) increase nearly 50% in the first month! Parents have made a point of coming to tell us how much they appreciate the work we are doing. They have noticed a significant difference in their children. Lives are being affected and souls are being saved. It is not our work, but that of the Holy Spirit.
They love the songs, games, and stories. Points are given for; memorizing the weekly Bible verse, the Ten Commandments (in order), attendance, assisting, helping in various ways. At the end-of-school-year party prizes are awarded for the different categories. All children walk away with a gift and are encouraged to continue. They leave knowing that they are greatly loved. Opportunities to teach are plentiful and more workers are needed. One such opportunity is the 'Story Castle' sponsored by CEF at the San Diego County Fair each summer. One year, 4,068 came through the Castle to hear the story of Bartimaeus, the blind man, from the Gospel of Mark 10. Of those 868 accepted Christ. What a harvest! The children love it! And so do the parents!
Another year, the Bible story we shared at the 'Castle' was the story of Noah. During my time of story telling, a group of young European men (ages 18-25 est.) came into the 'Castle'. They sat with eyes completely fixed to the pictures we used to tell the story. Many, many questions were asked about the Bible. They were completely enthralled with the wonder of God. The Holy Spirit was palpable. All but one prayed to receive Christ. It was one of the most beautiful and anointed moments in my walk with Christ. Then again there was a blessed moment with five South Korean Pastors while teaching with the 'Wordless Book' a teaching tool to explain the Gospel, simply. The Pastors were so amazed by the teaching that they wanted to take our supplies back to South Korea!
They asked many questions. I was so blessed and honored to have had the opportunity to help equip them to share the love of Christ to their nation. Bibles are not always easy to come by in other lands. The cost, weight, transportation in addition to hostile governments has often made it difficult. But relevancy of this simplistic teaching gives the basics of who God is, who we are, how sin separates us from God, what God did to reconcile us, and the hope we need. The Wordless Book is simple enough for anyone to teach. The children loved using the bracelets we gave with five colored beads so they could share the story anywhere even without the book.
