"For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle

will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled." ~ Matthew 5:18 ~

"Daniel answered and said 'Blessed be the name of God forever and ever, for wisdom and might are His.

And He changes the times and the seasons; He removes kings and raises up kings;

He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding.

He reveals deep and secret things; He knows what is in the darkness, and light dwells with Him.'" ~ Daniel 2:20-21

The Olivet Discourse

Jesus Christ gives us many signs for which to keep watch.

In three of the four Gospels, Matthew, Mark and Luke (John does not contain this event) we find many accounts that appear to be duplicated, but which give us additional perspective and information from the authors viewpoint.  It is wise to consider several passages of Scripture together regarding the same subject to help us see what the Lord God is revealing.  The Olivet Discourse given on the Mount of Olives in Israel is from the mouth of our Lord Jesus Christ to His disciples.  It is a word that has been studied and watched for for nearly 2000 years. So why does it apply now? Please read:

3 Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?” 4 And Jesus answered and said to them:

Take heed that no one deceives you. 5 For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many. 6 And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.  7 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be: famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places,

All these are the beginning of sorrows."

~ Matthew 24: 3-8 ~

3 Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter, James, John, and Andrew asked Him privately, “Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign when all these things will be fulfilled?”
And Jesus, answering them, began to say: Take heed that no one deceives you. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am He,’ and will deceive many. But when you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be troubled; for such things must happen, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be earthquakes in various places, and there will be famines and troubles
These are the beginnings of sorrows.

“But watch out for yourselves, for they will deliver you up to councils, and you will be beaten in the synagogues. You will be brought before rulers and kings for My sake, for a testimony to them. 10 And the gospel must first be preached to all the nations. 11 But when they arrest you and deliver you up, do not worry beforehand, or premeditate what you will speak. But whatever is given you in that hour, speak that; for it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit.

12 Now brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child;

and children will rise up against parents and cause them to be put to death.

1And you will be hated by all for My name’s sake. But he who endures to the end shall be saved."

~Mark 13:3-13~

So they asked Him, saying, “Teacher, but when will these things be? And what sign will there be when these things are about to take place?” And He said:
Take heed that you not be deceived. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am He,’ and, ‘The time has drawn near.’ Therefore do not go after them. But when you hear of wars and commotions, do not be terrified; for these things must come to pass first, but the end will not come immediately.”
10 Then He said to them, Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. 11 And there will be great earthquakes in various places, and famines and pestilences; and there will be fearful sights and great signs from heaven. 12 But before all these things, they will lay their hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and prisons. You will be brought before kings and rulers for My name’s sake. 13 But it will turn out for you as an occasion for testimony. 14 Therefore settle it in your hearts not to meditate beforehand on what you will answer; 15 for I will give you a mouth and wisdom which all your adversaries will not be able to contradict or resist.
16 You will be betrayed even by parents and brothers, relatives and friends; and they will put some of you to death.
17 And you will be hated by all for My name’s sake. 18 But not a hair of your head shall be lost. 19 By your patience possess your souls."
~ Luke 21:7-19 ~

They will put you out of the synagogues; yes, the time is coming that
whoever kills you will think that he offers God service."
~ John 16:2 ~
Jesus Christ warns us in advance that following Him is costly.

War and rumors of wars: Though these have been since the beginning, it is Israel that is the focal point.  What happens to Israel is paramount to God's timepiece in Scripture.  We see the alignment of Ezekiel 38 as saber rattling intensifies and jockeying for position and status intensifies among the nations the LORD identifies. Many are watching for the unfolding of the war of Gog and Magog in Ezekiel 38 and this may very well happen the moment the Rapture of the church occurs.

Nation against nation: The United Nations refuses to acknowledge Jerusalem as Israel's capital regardless of Jewish presence in the land for more than 3,700 year ago. This is due to Arabs from the surrounding lands wanting to oust the Jewish after their reestablishment as a nation in 1948 to claim it as their own, though it had lain desolate for hundreds of years.

God promised the land to Abraham and his descendants as recorded in Genesis 12:2-3 and 15:18 dating back to about BC 2100. Over the course of many years they obeyed and then disobeyed the LORD.  He would raise up Judges and kings to help after they promised to return to Him and then later they would worship other gods, only to find themselves in dire need of Him. Most of the Jews were forced out in the Diaspora (BC 597 - BC538) to Babylon and most returned 70 years later.

In the time of Jesus Christ there was a solid Jewish presence as well as oppression by Rome.  After the Lord came and fulfilled the prophecies about His first coming and then ascended to heaven promising His return in the future; the unbelieving Jews continued their rituals believing they could purify themselves according to the laws of Moses. There was a Jewish uprising against Rome and the Jews were forced out and the second Temple destroyed, which remains unbuilt as of the timing of this writing.  They were disobedient to the Lord God and were driven out. Again were scattered amongst the nations (Ezekiel 33) in AD 70 there again remained a Jewish as well as Christian presence in the land even after. But miraculously the Jewish people began making returns to the land in the 1600s after the pogroms forced them from the countries from which they had been scattered. Ezekiel 36 & 37 describes the land coming back to life.  These are only some of the prophecies concerning Israel.  We must acknowledge this great work and the fulfillment of His word that our heavenly Father has done.  No other people on the face of the earth have ever been scattered for 1900 years and returned with their writings and language.  This work cannot be denied.

Though the Jews have returned to their land, this has not been without great turmoil, warring and terror from those who hate them to this very day.  There is also much of the worldly worship which is incorporating itself again into Israel and will again be a snare to them. 2/3rds will perish in the Great Tribulation while the rest of the world also receives the Wrath of God.

29 He told them this parable: “Look at the fig tree and all the trees. 30 When they sprout leaves, you can see for yourselves and know that summer is near. 31 Even so, when you see these things happening, you know that the kingdom of God is near. 32 “Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. 33 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.

~ Luke 21:29-33 ~

The fig tree one of the symbols for Israel.  In this parable the Lord Jesus we have the promise that the generation that sees Israel back into the land and flourishing is the one that will see these end-time events unfold.

Kingdom against kingdom: We see Arab Kingdoms coming against one another in the midst of the preparation for Ezekiel 38's Gog and Magog battle. The Arab nations are dominated by the governance of Islam which was founded in AD 622; about 2700 years after God had promised the land to Abraham and on to his decedents; to his son Isaac and then to Isaac's son Jacob and continuing through this line.  After the death of Islam's founder, a prophet, the governance of the culture including the faith founded within it needed a leader.  The prophet's son-in-law and father-in-law contended for this position resulting in the first split of Sunni and Shia.  From there are additional branches however Sunni and Shia are the major leaders.  To this day these kingdoms contend with one another and both seek to dominate the world.  No non-muslim nation is safe as their holy book demands world domination and annihilation of all infidels (non-believers).

Tribal factions throughout the world continue to fight one another throughout Asia, Africa, South America, Central America and considering politics as well there are great contentions between parties all over the world.

Finally ~ although most of these warning signs have been ongoing throughout the world for many hundreds if not thousands of years, we must bear in mind that in this time:

  • Mankind has 'advanced' to where nuclear war could break out simultaneous from many places on the earth
  • Israel has been restored and at the 70 year anniversary
  • The LORD's Gospel preached to every nation as He said 2,000 years ago that it would be.

And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations,

and then the end will come." Matthew 24:14
